Beginning in l975, I took numerousblack and white photographs in Iowa; I had my own 35mm darkroom and enjoyed marketing pictures to local newspapers, but these frames were mostly for my own enjoyment.. A horse picture was picked up by the Associated Press. Louie Goins was a big influence on the way I processed my film and prints.

I spent much of my time in the countryside looking for scenes to document the disappearing way of life prior to 1950. These were farm and small town documents. From time to time, I found something interesting in the city.

Brando in Cedar Rapids
When a federal trial had a change of venue, proceedings were moved to Cedar Rapids.

Lincoln Highway Marker
Near our home, I found this concrete highway marker. What made it exceptional was the likeness of Lincoln was actually a copper coin insert!

Gas Pump
This pump had a lighted dome, now broken. The sale price per gallon of gasoline was less than 30 cents.
