In 1952, our family vacationed in Beirut. We stayed at the Normandie Hotel. Roger was the owner/manager. Little did I know the following year I would be enrolled at the American Community School (ACS) of Beirut. This kindergarten through high school and the American University of Beirut (AUB) were drawing cards to American expatriates. Most Americans from ARAMCO, however, came to Beirut for relaxation, the night life, medical attention, or a taste of moderate, western life in the Middle East. Unfortunately the war destroyed this area; hence the photographs. (rcc) |
